Where to have drinks in San Sebastiàn

San Sebastián - or Donostia, as the Basque call it - is the city of amazing food and drinks... and so cheap! Don't bother ordering a bottle unless you're in a group, just go from bar to bar and enjoy a glass of wine or a large beer for just 2.50 euros!

These are my favourite places to have a drink in San Sebastián (besides all the pinxtos bars where you can also have a drink):

The view is amazing

This place is on the top of the hill overlooking the old town, which means you have to walk up, but you will be rewarded with the best view! Although you might expect this place to be expensive because of the view, on the contrary, the beer is from the Spanish brewery Kellermann, tastes amazing and is super cheap! The vibe is very local, chill and young - the perfect place for sundowners!

Scampi on Mars Akerbeltz San Sebastian

If you've had too much to drink the night before, or just don't feel like going up the stairs, this is the place to be: it's basically at the bottom of the stairs up the mountain, but overlooks La Concha Bay and the harbour. This place only serves drinks, is only open in the evening and is really cheap, which means there are lots of people standing outside chatting and watching the sunset. Good atmosphere!

Continuing down the street, you come to a church with beautiful steps where people sit with a glass of wine and chat. Right there is Atari, the place to order the long braised beef cheek from the menu! Another big hit is the grilled duck (foie), which I have yet to try. As well as their classic, they also offer a pinxtos of the day for a very fair price, just ask what it is!

Order a local beer (Kellermann) and go outside and sit on the steps and enjoy the fantastic view and atmosphere. The stairs are beautifully lit at night, sheltered from the wind, and you get a nice view of the crowded streets and the nightbirds wandering around and partying.
